we studied the opioid crisis in central Florida
What we found has shaped our pathway
to find solutions in our region.
Project Opioid and the University of Central Florida Population Health Collaborative released “A Prescription for Change: Finding Solutions for the Opioid Crisis in Central Florida” – A report on the regional opioid epidemic and a plan to address it on October 28, 2019.

The opioid epidemic is having a significant impact on the state of Florida and the residents of Orange, Osceola, and Seminole counties. To assess this impact, researchers from the University of Central Florida and Project Opioid complied over 70 datasets from health care providers, payers, government, and law enforcement to paint a cohesive picture of the issue in our region. This report outlines the findings of this data study and summarizes key findings into 12 important themes, including fentanyl, children, and the consequences of limited opioids in our region. Important policy considerations, as well as ways that employers and faith-based organizations can become the “New Frontline”, are discussed.
